Avoid heavy pruning during the bird breeding season (roughly 15 March – 15 July). Under the Omgevingswet it is prohibited to disturb active nests, whatever the date. Light shaping is fine if you check for nests first. Many municipalities (APV rules) also require hedges along pavements to be trimmed so pedestrians and sightlines stay clear — late summer and early autumn are ideal.
